TEMPLE OF THE SUN
GAMEPLAY INFORMATION
Object
In order to win a prize in Temple of the Sun, the player must (a) successfully finish the game and (b) achieve the highest score of all successful players.
Scoring
The scoring in Temple of the Sun is based on two things: collecting the spinning pieces of gold and disposing of Guardians with the player's laser mouse. Alone, a piece of gold is worth 2400 points and a Guardian is worth 12,000 points. However, each time the player scores, a one-second timer begins. During this time, each successive score becomes worth more than the last, extending the one-second timer each time. This is known as a combo. A combo continues until a full second passes without a change in score, at which time the combo ends and the timer resets. The first piece in a combo is always worth its base value, the second is worth twice its base value, the third three times its base value, and so on. Thus, with careful planning, the player's score can be considerably increased.
Penalties
Each time the character comes in contact with a hazard, his health will decrease. This also decreases his store of treasure by one hundred points per point of health lost. Thus, a hazard that causes ten points of damage will also reduce the player's score by 1000 points. If his health decreases to zero, his store of treasure will disappear completely and he will begin the current level from the beginning.
Character Control
The game is played from the keyboard. The arrow keys allow the player to move the character to the left and right, as well as climb up and down walls that are covered with vines. The "C" key causes the character to jump, the "X" key results in a crouch, and the "Z" key causes the character to unleash his laser mouse attack.
